jpnn.com – The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) is asked to be brave and firm in using its authority in investigating allegations of money politics involving two Democratic Party legislative candidates that occurred in DKI Jakarta.

This request was conveyed by researcher from the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Usep Hasan Sadikin to journalists in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/3).

The two people reported for alleged money politics ahead of the 2024 elections are DPR RI candidate for electoral district II, DKI Jakarta, Melani Leimena Suharli, and DPRD candidate for DKI Jakarta, electoral district 7, DKI Jakarta, Ali Muhammad Johan.

Usep said that Melani and Ali’s handling of allegations of money politics could prove Bawaslu’s seriousness in using the authority granted by the Election Law.

“Bawaslu can take action against criminal acts of money politics even through the Gakkumdu Center,” said Usep.

He explained that there were two reasons why money politics cases were never resolved, namely not enough evidence, both from findings and reports and dead ends when they were taken to the Gakkumdu Center.

He also asked Bawaslu to show serious efforts in processing reports of alleged money politics carried out by two Democratic legislative candidates.

“Hopefully, Bawaslu will see its efforts to enter the Gakkumdu Center,” he said.

Tulisdem asked Bawaslu to be firm and serious in investigating the alleged money politics of 2 Democratic legislative candidates that occurred in DKI Jakarta.
