New York/Tokyo: Despite opposition from China and Pakistan, India has intensified its all-round voice for reform of the United Nations Security Council. Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, who was on a visit to Japan, targeted the continuous failure of the United Nations. India’s ‘Chanakya’ Jaishankar said that the United Nations is not playing the role it should play. We know that there will be reforms in the UN Security Council but we do not know how long it will take and what form it will take. Jaishankar said that those (China-Pakistan) who are opposing the change have found a way to delay it. At the same time, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, also strongly raised the issue of discrimination in the Security Council. Meanwhile, G4 member country Germany has also issued a statement openly supporting India.

Ruchira Kamboj clarified the situation of G4 group of Japan, India, Germany, Brazil. He said that Western Europe has been given more priority in the Security Council. The Indian representative called for expansion in both permanent and non-permanent membership. India said that it called for increasing the representation of developing countries of the Global South. He said that the G4 countries want balanced representation to be given to all regions of the world. Germany also openly supported this statement of the Indian representative. Germany’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations said that the current structure of the Security Council does not properly reflect the current geopolitical scenario of the world.

France also supported India’s demand

Germany said that today if we want proper resolution of disputes, there is a strong need for expansion in both permanent and non-permanent areas in the Security Council. If any other attitude is adopted then it will not be able to achieve its goal. France has also openly supported this demand of India. France said that its country wants the Security Council to be reformed so that more representatives of today’s world are included in it. We support the bid of G4 countries for permanent membership.

France also demanded that the representation of African countries in the Security Council should also be increased as permanent and non-permanent members. The G4 countries have intensified this demand at a time when China has emerged as the biggest obstacle to expansion. Recently, the Indian Foreign Minister had openly said that there is no western country that opposes India’s claim. His reference was towards China. After this statement of Jaishankar, China was furious and said that this reform should not be for the benefit of some people. Not only this, at the behest of China, Pakistan had also openly opposed the reforms in the United Nations. Pakistan is afraid that if India becomes a permanent member, India’s influence in the global organization will increase.
