Toriyama died last Friday of a cerebral hemorrhage, according to his production company Bird Studios.

– He had a lot he could still achieve. However, we hope that Toriyama’s unique world continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come,” Bird Studios wrote in a statement.

Toriyama was one of Japan’s most influential cartoonists, and his works have had a major impact on popular culture in the West as well.

“Dragon Ball” was published monthly in Norway by Schibsted from 2004. The series originally appeared in the magazine “Shonen Jump” in Japan in 1984.

The series is about the boy Son Goku, who collects magic balls with dragons and who, together with his friends, fights to protect the earth from evil enemies.
