Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, a member of the presidium of Awami League and Minister of Textiles and Jute, has warned that no one will be spared if syndicates hold people hostage in the month of Ramadan.

The minister gave this warning at the opening ceremony of the month-long sale of daily essentials at low prices on the occasion of Ramadan in front of the capital’s Shyamoli ground on Sunday (March 10).

He said that some people choose to make money by taking people as hostages from the bazaar that is supposed to be issued during the month of Ramadan. But no one can get away with cheating the consumers.

Nanak said, I was informed about the market when I was the Minister of Local Government and Cooperatives. I have an idea about the market. Cauliflower bought at Comilla Nimsar market for Tk 10 goes to Newmarket or Town Hall market via Karwan Bazar and becomes Tk 50. The farmer gets 10 rupees, the rest of the money goes to the pocket! Basically this is Shubhankar’s evasion in the market.

Stating that the Prime Minister has repeatedly warned about the market price, the jute minister said, action will be taken against those who are not bringing the market price under control.

Stating that the morals of people in the country have degraded to humanity, Nanak also said that the market prices in various Muslim countries decrease during the month of Ramadan. But the businessmen of Bangladesh choose the way of earning by holding the consumers hostage. It’s sad.
