In 2023, two-thirds of the domestic tourist traffic came from rural accommodation, where 74% of the guests came from the country. Based on the data of the NTAK created by the Hungarian Tourist Agency, among the counties
the most, a total of 1,248,000 domestic tourists – not including the capital – traveled from Pest County last year, most of whom traveled to Siófok, Hajdúszoboszló and Eger.
Moreover, not only in absolute terms, but also in relation to the population of the counties, the proportion of domestic tourists was the highest here (93%) in 2023.
This is similarly true for Győr-Moson-Sopron, which was the area with the second largest number of domestic travelers both overall and in terms of population. From here, tourists mostly headed for Zalakaros, Balatonfüred and Siófok. Just like the tourists of Komárom-Esztergom, which is on the imaginary 3rd step of the podium of the counties with the most domestic tourists in relation to the population.
On average, tourists from Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Bács-Kiskun and Baranya traveled the furthest from their own county, and from all three areas they targeted Siófok, which was the most popular domestic tourist destination in these counties.
In addition to the already mentioned Pest and Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar county tourists traveled outside their own county most often last year, they mostly stayed in Gyula, Eger and Miskolc. Having already left the county, the tourists from Somogy traveled the closest, most of them to Zalakaros, Hévíz and Pécs. Within their own county, the largest number of people from Zala sought rest in 2023.
Tourists from Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Tolna and Borsod went on the longest vacations, with an average length of stay of 2.9; 2.8; and there were 2.8 guest nights. In 2023, tourists from Pest county spent the most guest nights in the country: a total of 3.1 million nights.
Most young people (aged 19-24) traveled from the counties of Pest, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Hajdú-Bihar, mostly to Siófok, Nyíregyháza and Miskolc. The members of the oldest generation, over 65 years of age, mostly set off from here, from the counties of Pest and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplé, and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg – towards the same cities.
In 2023, the oldest domestic tourist was 100 years old, who visited Zala from Győr-Moson-Sopron, where he spent 3 nights. The youngest domestic guest, not even one year old, spent 4 nights in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, where he arrived from Budapest.
