It was a drama, but Arsenal achieved a tough victory over Brentford, 2-1, this Saturday (9/3). Thus, he assumed the provisional leadership of the English Championship. The team took the lead with Declan Rice. But they conceded the draw, in first-half stoppage time, with a bizarre goal from Wissa following a mistake by their goalkeeper Ramsdale. The victory only came after 41 minutes of the final stage, with Havertz.
With this victory, their eighth in a row in the Premier League, the Gunners reach 64 points, ahead of Liverpool, with 63, and City, with 62. But these two face each other this Sunday and could regain the lead. Brentford, with 26 points, is in 15th place, but very close to Z3.
Arsenal on the front
Arsenal dominated in the first half, with 72% possession and facing a tough rival. Brentford did everything they could to avoid dangerous shots in their goal. That just didn’t work out in the 18th minute, when the home team made it 1-0. Saka received the ball on the right and rolled it to Ben White. This crossed to the head of Declan Rice. It was easy for Arsenal to get close to the area. But then entering the area in conditions to shoot was another matter. And there was still Havertz free kicking out. And no second goal.
Gol bizarro do Brentford
Until, in stoppage time, a bizarre goal left everything the same. Arsenal dominated the ball and exchanged passes in defense. Gabriel Magalhães was late for goalkeeper Ramsdale. The archer took a while to fight back and Wissa launched himself, sliding across the field, to share the ball. He succeeded and she died in the goal. Unbelievable.
Arsenal continued to press in the second half. But without being able to break through the London rival’s defense. And Brentford narrowly missed out on a header almost from Collins’ box, in which goalkeeper Ramsdale saved the game. It made up for the mistake in Brentford’s goal.
Finally, victory
With the stumble imminent, coach Arteta finally added Gabriel Jesus to further increase the Gunners’ offensive volume. He succeeded. First, Rice sent one onto the crossbar. At 41, White received the ball on the right and crossed to Havertz’s header, against goalkeeper Flekken. Arsenal sleeps in the lead. And on Tuesday, they will face a very motivated Porto team at the Emirates in the return of the Champions League quarter-finals (in the first leg, Porto fans 1-0).
