Hackers have learned to hack the PlayStation Portal portable gaming device and run pirated software on it.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru, this was reported by the publication DTF, citing the account of hacker Andy Nguyen on X (Twitter). Hackers xyz and ZetaTwo helped Nguyen bypass the PlayStation Portal security.

After the hack, enthusiasts were able to run the PlayStation Portable emulator – PPSSPP – on the new Sony product. Already through the emulator on the PlayStation Portal, hackers managed to play one of the parts of Grand Theft Auto (GTA).

According to Nguyen, it took the team more than a month of hard work to crack the PlayStation Portal. The protection was bypassed only using software – there was no need to install additional physical modules into the device.

Nguyen said that the team does not yet intend to make publicly available tools and instructions for hacking the PlayStation Portal. According to him, hackers “still have work to do.” DTF suggested that enthusiasts would work on optimizing PPSSPP.

The release of PlayStation Portal took place at the end of 2023. The device is a modified Android tablet with controllers. The gadget is designed to play games running on the PlayStation 5 via an Internet connection – the PlayStation Portal cannot run games natively. At least until the hack.

The exact characteristics of the PlayStation Portal are kept secret. However, first, enthusiasts found out that the device runs on a Snapdragon 680 mobile processor and has 6 GB of RAM.
