The fight for the ball

Lara Gut-Behrami, the leader in the discipline rankings, is 95 points ahead of Federica Brignone before the last World Cup giant slalom of the winter. This means that 15th place in Salzburgerland is enough to secure the glass trophy for the first time. At the end of the season with the smaller starting fields, only the first 15 will receive World Cup points.

The fight for the day’s victory

After the first round, Gut-Behrami had all the advantages on her side. She was in second place behind Hector and in front of Brignone; the Italian, her last remaining competitor in the fight for victory in the giant slalom classification, had distanced her by over half a second.

Brignone, however, showed an impressive reaction to her first, not entirely successful, trip. The Italian made another mistake in the first few goals, but she wasn’t impressed by it. She sought even more risk – and was rewarded with her fifth World Cup victory this season, the third in a giant slalom after the double at the beginning of December in Mont-Tremblant in the Canadian province of Quebec. Hector was seven hundredths faster than Gut-Behrami in the final calculation.

The other Swiss women

Gut-Behrami was once again on a level of his own in a giant slalom. The second best Swiss-Ski rider was Michelle Gisin in 17th place. Camille Rast fell 11 places to 22nd place in the second run. Simone Wild found herself in 27th place in the final rankings.

In addition to Gut-Behrami, Rast and Gisin will represent the Swiss colors in the women’s giant slalom at the final in a week. Gisin benefits from the fact that all drivers who have scored at least 500 points in the respective season are entitled to start, even without being classified in the top 25 of the discipline rankings. Liverpool FC was the superior team in the top game against Manchester City, but missed out on victory. One scene particularly upset Jürgen Klopp.

The 1-1 draw in the home game against Manchester City made Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp angry after the final whistle. But the reason was not his own team. They dominated the guests for long stretches of the game, but ultimately didn’t have enough luck to turn the game around. Above all, the “Reds” also had bad luck with a referee decision – which annoyed Klopp so much.
