The Bangladesh Film Artists Association election schedule was announced a long time ago, but recently it was postponed and a new date was set. Although the election was scheduled to be held on April 19, it was changed to April 27 by Election Commissioner Chairman Khorshed Alam Khosru. Misha Saudagar, the former president of the last two terms, was surprised by the announcement of this new date. The actor has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner stating that he will have to face many problems including financial loss as a result of the new date.

Misha Saudagar mentioned in the letter – ‘According to the decision of the executive council of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association, the election schedule for the term 19 April 2024-26 was announced. Accordingly, we have already completed the overall preparation of a panel to participate as candidates in the elections. But we are surprised to see the schedule signed and announced by the learned Election Commission on March 4, 2024, without any decision taken in any meeting of the Executive Council, suddenly postponing the date of election.

Stating that there has been a violation of structural rules in the schedule, the actor also wrote in the letter, ‘We, along with the general members, feel that there has been a violation of organizational and structural rules as there is no mention of any decision of the executive council to change the date in the schedule, and even the honorable president has not signed the schedule.’

Misha Saudagar wrote about the financial loss, “Furthermore, we as professional actors have already given shooting dubbing schedules to various film producers-directors as per the dates announced by the executive council and have also fixed the selection schedule accordingly.” If the schedule is delayed due to the above reasons, we will have to face many problems including financial losses.’

In a letter requesting the Chairman of the Election Commissioner, Misha wrote, ‘Given the utmost importance to the matter, I request you to respect the announcement of the Executive Council and announce the revised schedule keeping the date of the election unchanged for our spontaneous participation in the election.’

When the Chief Election Commissioner of Shilpi Samiti was contacted in this regard, he said, ‘I have received applications from Misha and others. Many have said they will go abroad and hold elections after Eid. We will meet in a few days and take a decision.’

In this election, Misha Saudagar (presidential candidate) and Manowar Hossain Dipjal (general secretary candidate) will be in a panel. On the other hand, outgoing committee president Elias Kanchan has decided to withdraw from the polling field. Because of that, general secretary candidate Nipun Akhtar is in trouble. He is plowing the field in search of the president of his panel.

Recently Chief Election Commissioner Khorshed Alam Khosru and Chairman of Appeal Board Shamsul Alam came under criticism for a speech of Anant Jalil. Anant said that Nipun offered him the post of president in the election of artists association, along with producers Mohammad Iqbal, Khorshed Alam Khosru, Samsul Alam and others.

Basically, the Chief Election Commissioner came under criticism after Anant’s statement. After that, Khosru said, ‘Actually, this incident happened a long time ago. At that time I did not get the responsibility of Election Commissioner. As a result, there is no opportunity to question it. Now I am in charge. So I will try my best to have a fair and impartial election.
