The Red Bull Formula 1 team may soon have a new boss.
The reason is the sex scandal with Christian Horner. The former British driver took advantage of his position to send obscene messages to a team official, who is said to be his secretary. After an internal investigation by independent lawyers, the big bosses declared Horner innocent. In the last two weeks, however, tensions have risen again after certain journalists and FIA chiefs received a file containing “selected extracts” from Christian’s WhatsApp correspondence.
According to the German publication Motorsport, a meeting recently took place in Dubai between the CEO of “Red Bull” Oliver Mintzlaff, Franz Vaslavik, who is the head of the “Beverages” sector at the company, and Schalerm Jovidia, a representative of the Thai majority shareholder. The three have come to the conclusion that removing Horner would be the best course of action.
The management is worried that the scandal could have a negative effect on the commercial activity of Red Bull. Iovidia, who has always been Horner’s biggest supporter, will be persuaded to change his mind. This will mean that the team director can part with his post even before the next start of the world championship in Australia on March 24.
At the same time, it is said that the Red Bull employee involved in the story is preparing to make a public statement with her version of what happened, and that this will prove to be decisive for Horner’s suspension.
