Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M) state secretariat has said in a statement that there should be a strong protest against the central government’s decision to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act.

India was formed as a secular state based on the views advanced by the National Freedom Movement. The Citizenship Amendment Act is part of the effort to completely destroy those views and turn the country into a religious state. Strong protests against its implementation have been raised across the country. The state government has already announced that it will not be implemented in Kerala. For any reason, therefore, this law will not be implemented in Kerala.

It is not a coincidence that such a notification came on the same day that the Supreme Court ruled that the central government would be held liable in the Electoral Bond issue. The Citizenship Amendment Act has come out as a result of efforts to divide the people and win at a time when the parliamentary elections are near. A strong resistance will be put up by all sections of the population who want the secular state to exist. In a statement, the CPI(M) state secretariat said that a strong protest should be organized across the state as part of this.

The Citizenship Amendment Act came into force in the country on Monday evening. The Act came into force with the issuance of the notification regarding the amendment. Parliament had earlier passed an amendment to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Christians, Buddhists and Parsis who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. It was a promise in BJP’s 2019 manifesto that the Citizenship Amendment Act would be implemented. Six states, including Kerala, had passed resolutions against its implementation.
