Guatemalan authorities reported, in the last few hours, the arrest of a group of Cuban migrants and other nationalities who entered that country illegally.

According to the report issued by the Guatemalan Migration Institute, a total of 52 people were intercepted by security agencies in the early morning hours.

The operation was led by agents of the National Civil Police on route CA-1, in Culiapa, Santa Rosa, where they stopped travelers in the middle of the highway.

It turned out that there were 18 Cuban migrants who were in that group, in addition to another 22 from Ecuador, seven from the Dominican Republic and five from Nepal.

Of all of them, there were four minors accompanied by an adult, to whom “differentiated attention will be provided.”

The authorities noted that all of them were transferred to a center designated for these people, where they will receive medical attention and food, while waiting for their cases to be resolved.

Following this case, the Guatemalan Migration Institute reported that the implementation of a new immigration policy is currently being developed in order to “provide better care to the foreign migrant population.”

“Currently, the Guatemalan Migration Institute is in the process of implementing the Migration Policy, an instrument that integrates actions to provide better care to the foreign migrant population, considering the migratory flows that transit through the country”.

It is worth emphasizing that Guatemala is a country highly traveled by Cuban migrants and many other countries, taking into account that it is on the border with Mexico, the last step for those who dream of entering the United States and who, previously, carried out the route through other lands of Central America.
