An event dedicated to the celebration of the ancient traditional Romanian and Moldavian spring holiday – Martisor – was held at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum in Baku, Day.Az reports.

The event was attended by the acting director of the museum, Mira Mammadkhanova, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Azerbaijan, Alexander Esaulenko, and the Ambassador of Romania to Azerbaijan, Vasile Soare. An employee of the Romanian Embassy, ​​UNESCO expert Nicoletta Zagura spoke in detail about the traditions of this holiday and its similarities with the Nowruz holiday.

As part of the event, organized by the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum jointly with the embassies of the Republics of Romania and Moldova, the Moldovan national dance, master classes on making souvenir rugs “Butali” and boutonnieres in the form of flowers from red and white threads were presented, as well as a tour of museum expositions.

Let us note that Martisor is a traditional holiday of welcoming spring in Moldova and Romania, which is celebrated on March 1. On this day, people give each other small boutonnieres in the form of flowers made from white and red threads. This decoration, just like the holiday, is called martisor.
