New Delhi: A new regional airline has started in the country. Its name is Fly91. On Tuesday, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia flagged off its first flight. It took off from Goa’s Manohar International Airport (MOPA) for Agatti Island in Lakshadweep. Jyotiraditya Scindia praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in transforming the aviation industry with the emergence of new regional airlines in the last decade. He said, ‘In the last 10 years, a new era has come in this industry under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This has led to the birth of six new regional airlines.

The minister highlighted the development of the industry under the leadership of PM Modi. He said that the airlines which were once closing down are taking steps towards expansion. He also emphasized on the development of civil aviation in India. In this he mentioned the government’s Udaan scheme. The government is connecting small cities through the scheme.

What is the target?

The aviation industry aims to increase domestic traffic to 300 million by 2030. Whereas in 2014 it was only Rs 6 crore. Scheduled flights of Fly91 will start from March 18. These will operate between Manohar International Airport, Goa and various cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jalgaon, Agatti, Pune, Nanded and Sindhudurg.

What will be the benefit?

These new connections will meet the demand for better connectivity across the country. Due to this, access to different areas will increase. This will not only increase tourism but will also boost trade and commerce. This will strengthen the Government’s commitment to provide affordable, timely, safe and hassle-free travel experience to passengers. The launch event of Fly91 was attended by Chairman Harsh Raghavan, Joint Secretary MoCA Asangba Chuba and several other officials of AAI and Civil Aviation Ministry.
