At the Council of Presidents of the LigaPro held this Friday, February 2, 2024, in the city of Guayaquil, the decision was made to postpone the start of the Ecuadorian soccer tournament to next March 1.
Due to the state of emergency that governs our country due to the acts of violence that have occurred in recent weeks, the LigaPro authorities made the decision to postpone the first date of Serie A 2024, which was scheduled for February 16.
12 of the 15 Serie A clubs voted for the start of the national tournament two weeks later than planned (March 1), with the aim of being able to better organize their presentation matches and the start of the LigaPro.
On the other hand, the president of the Quito League (Isaac Álvarez) did not rule out the possibility of playing the first leg final of the Recopa Sudamericana in another country, while the presentation matches of Emelec and Barcelona would be rescheduled for the 17th (Explosión Azul) and February 18 (Yellow Night).
Today the Metropolitan COE of Quito will meet (4:00 p.m.) to make a decision on the presence of the public in the stadiums, while the Cantonal COE of Guayaquil will meet next Tuesday to decide on this matter.
