Amid the conflict with the terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a letter to Jair Bolsonaro inviting the former Brazilian president to visit the country. In the document, to which the column had access, the Israeli leader criticizes Lula.

Without mentioning the PT member’s name, Netanyahu wrote that the current Brazilian president made “outrageous accusations” against the Israeli army’s operations in Gaza. The mention was a reference to the statement in which Lula compared Israel’s murder of Palestinian civilians to the Holocaust.

“Just yesterday (25), you demonstrated your solidarity with the people and the State of Israel, proudly waving the Israeli flag at a rally in São Paulo. This was a clear and morally sound rejection of his successor’s outrageous accusations against IDF (Israel Defense Forces) operations in Gaza,” wrote the prime minister, in a free translation made by the column.
