Thus, La Mariscal begins to recover beyond ‘Plaza Foch’with businesses that are reactivated in the perimeter that goes from Av. Patria, in the south, to Av. Colón, in the north, and from 9 de Octubre, in the west, to 12 de Octubre, in the east.
In a recent interview with María Cristina Rivadeneira, zonal administrator of La Mariscal, it was confirmed that this sector is experiencing an economic recovery. Compared to 2022, the year 2023 saw a 10% growth in business openings.
During 2022 3,400 operating permits were issued for various establishments in La Mariscal. However, in 2023this figure increased to 3,600. In January of this year alone, 200 businesses have renewed their permits, highlighting a positive trend in the commercial reactivation of the so-called ‘Pink Zone’.
Rivadeneira pointed out that this increase in business openings is part of a strategy to rescue the La Mariscal neighborhood, a place with a rich centuries-old history. Known for being the home of universities and a nerve center for financial, hospitality and tourism businesses.
The zonal administrator highlighted that this sector has an active demographic, with approximately 200,000 people fluctuating daily within the neighborhood. This constant influx has contributed to the increased commercial activity and renewed interest in the properties.
Cpreventive measures
La Mariscal Zonal Administration is implementing measures to organize public spaces and control alcohol consumption in urban areas, especially near universities. That is why daily operations are being carried out to control the drinkers. In January, 750 people who consumed alcohol in public places were removed. In addition, more than 70 premises were intervened, nearly 100 sanctions were carried out in public spaces and More than 540 liters of adulterated alcohol were discarded.
Biweekly meetings are also held with the Salesian, Polytechnic and Catholic universities, to carry out awareness campaigns on alcohol consumption.
According to Rivadeneira, before the pandemic, there were not so many operations carried out nor were there so many resources available to control the public space in this area. 2023 closed with the withdrawal of more than 5,000 libadores and the seizure of more than 5,000 liters of alcohol from public spaces in that area.
Regarding this year’s participatory budgets, the investment of more than $30,000 in the recovery of Julio Andrade park, where problems with libadors persist. Initiatives to improve the experience in ‘The Zone’
In an effort to revitalize La Mariscal, the Municipality has allocated investments in security, mobility and urban development projects.
An example is the Sendero Seguro project, on Patria Avenue, with an investment of more than $520,000 in underground cables and lighting. This work seeks to address the security concerns that investors have when considering returning to the Foch.
