Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde cabinet approved the construction of a Central Park with international level facilities in place of Mahalaxmi Race Course. Out of the 211 acres of land of the race course, Central Park will be constructed on 120 acres of land. It will be developed on the lines of parks in New York of America and London of England. It will be constructed by BMC.
In fact, Uddhav Thackeray faction’s MLA Aditya Thackeray had alleged that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP and the contractor are together trying to grab the land of the race course in Mahalaxmi. Ignoring this, on Monday the Cabinet approved the construction of a Central Park in the Race Course.

BMC will build stables for horses
BMC will spend Rs 100 crore to build stables for horses on 91 acres of land. On January 30, 76 percent of the members of the Royal Western India Turf Club voted in favor of a park at the racecourse. It was then decided that a central park would be constructed here.
BMC will recover the dues
This plot of Mahalaxmi Race Course was given on lease to the race course management Royal Western India Turf Club (RWIC) in the year 1914. This lease has expired in the year 2013 itself. Since then BMC has not collected rent from the club. Now the government has said that BMC will collect the dues at the rate fixed by the Revenue and Forest Department.

Oxygen Park of Mumbaikars
Speaking at the inauguration of the Coastal Road, CM Shinde said that a park will be constructed in 320 acres around Mahalaxmi. This park will be built on 120 acres under the race course and on about 200 acres under the coastal road. This will be the oxygen park of Mumbaikars. CM said that we assured the Central Environment Department that there will be no construction on the place created by bridging the sea for the coastal road. There we will provide gardens and other facilities to the people.
