Consumer sentiment plays a significant role in determining the level of consumption of goods and services, which, in turn, is the basis for economic growth.

Statistics show that in February there was an increase in the confidence index compared to January, although not significant. Index levels are still comparable to those during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In March 2020, a decline was observed in all four components of the index, including those relating to respondents’ personal financial situation over the past year and their financial expectations for the year ahead. In contrast to that period, these two indicators are now showing growth.

The minimal increase in the overall index is associated with the fact that respondents are more pessimistic about Israel’s economic prospects than they were during the epidemic.

This indicates that it is possible to influence consumer sentiment, especially when it comes to the overall economic outlook. At the same time, changing consumers’ opinions about their personal financial situation is more difficult, since they have more competence in this matter than any analysts.

In addition, CSB data recently showed that over the past year, the average salary in Israel increased by 6.1%, reaching NIS 12,860 per month for salaried employees. Particularly strong figures were recorded in the technology sector, where the average salary exceeds the national average and amounts to NIS 29,674 per month, an increase of 6.8%.
