For the convenience of working women, 40 species of ‘ready to cook fish’ will be marketed in the capital and Chittagong from Thursday (March 14), said the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock. Abdur Rahman.

He gave this information while inaugurating the ‘BFDC Ready to Cook Fish’ marketing program of Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) in Dhaka on Wednesday (March 13).

Md. Abdur Rahman said, ‘BFDC Ready Fish’ will be marketed through six mobile freezing vans at 16 spots in Dhaka city.

He said that women, especially working women, will benefit a lot as a result of the ready-to-cook fish marketing activities. As a result of various initiatives of the present government, women are engaged in various professions. Hence, BFDC Ready Fish will be very effective in making their life easier.

There are three permanent marketing places in the capital – the fish warehouse of BFDC Bhawan located in Karwan Bazar, the fish landing center at Jatrabari and the Chittagong fish port. Besides, the 16 mobile spots in Dhaka city are: (1) Mohakhali DOHS, Road No. 27, (2) Banani, Navy Headquarters and Gulshan (adjacent to Azad Masjid), (3) Secretariat South Gate, (4) Mirpur DOHS, Mirpur, (5) Swapna Nagar Residential Area, Cantonment, (6) Mirpur Aparajita Bhavan, Mirpur, (7) Dhanmondi No. 6, (8) Azimpur Colony, Azimpur, (9) Ladies Club, Iskaton, (10) Secretary Quarter, Iskaton ( Wednesday and Saturday), (11) ACC Office, Segunbagicha, (12) AGB Colony, Motijheel, (13) Shankar, Dhanmondi, (14) Sechbhavan, Manik Mia Avenue (Friday and Saturday), (15) Dhanmondi 28 and (16) ) Adjacent to Mohammadpur Mother and Child Hospital, Mohammadpur.

The minister said that marketing of ready fish will be undertaken through online, e-commerce platform and appointment of local dealers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given visionary directions for preparation, marketing and market expansion of ready-to-cook fish to make cooking easier for working women, Abdur Rahman said, BFDC prepared and marketed ready-to-cook fish on the instructions of the Prime Minister. This timely program undertaken by BFDC will play an important role in building Smart Bangladesh under the strong leadership of the Prime Minister.

He also said that one of the biggest challenges in ready-to-cook fish is maintaining the taste and nutritional value. However, the minister claimed that the fish products which will be marketed as ‘ready to cook’ from BFDC are of high quality. He urged to pay more attention to ensuring food quality. The minister felt that good response would be received if these products are prepared by maintaining international standards.

Bangladesh ranks third in fish production in the world but lags behind in export and processing, the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock said that there is a lot of demand for ready-to-cook fish in the local and international markets. He urged the concerned to find out what type of fish is in demand in the foreign market for ready to cook fish. He expressed hope that if ready to cook fish can be prepared by maintaining international standards, it will be possible to earn a large amount of foreign exchange by exporting these products. He also expressed the opinion that employment opportunities will be created through ready to cook fish.

The minister assured that the government will provide all kinds of cooperation in the production and marketing of fish products. The Minister of Fisheries and Livestock urged all stakeholders to play a direct role from their respective positions in the marketing and expansion of ready fish.
