A FIFA delegation is in Argentina this week to inspect sports facilities in the country to choose the stadium that would host the debut of the National Team in the 2030 World Cup.
According to the official website of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), its president, Claudio Tapia, met this Tuesday with the committee in charge of reviewing the fields likely to host Argentina’s opening match at the World Cup event organized by Spain. Portugal and Morocco and will have a match in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
The facilities reviewed by the FIFA team and a delegation of AFA employees, led by the general director, Gustavo Lorenzo, were the premises of the Club Atlético River Plate (River Camp) and that of Boca Juniors (Boca Predio), both in the town of Ezeiza (province of Buenos Aires). In addition, they moved to the Argentinos Juniors complex (CEFFA) and ended up at Casa Amarilla, the Boca Juniors facility in the Argentine capital.
Argentina has numerous stadiums that could host the opening match in the 2030 event, as they regularly do with official and friendly matches of the National Team.
River Plate’s Monumental stadium, which is already emerging as a candidate to host the final of the Copa Libertadores this year, is one of them; another is La Bombonera, from Boca Juniros. In the Buenos Aires suburbs, the town of Avellaneda, where Racing and Independiente play in two stadiums separated by a few streets, is another of those that would be nominated for that inaugural match. Other fields where Argentina plays as host are the Mario Alberto Kempes, in Córdoba, where the Super Cup is being played precisely this Wednesday; the Malvinas Argentinas, from Mendoza; or the Mother of Cities, from Santiago del Estero.
The FIFA delegation, which will also visit Uruguay, a country that in 2030 will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup in history, in 1930, is made up of Brett Sherrard, Christian Stiegler, Kristel Sanchez, Lisa Pennington, Nicholas Rozenberg, Cyril Roche , Cristal Peires and Esther Whybra.
This 2024 will be decisive for Spain, Morocco and Portugal to finalize the details of their candidacy for the 2030 World Cup, already selected as the only one by FIFA, to which it will be definitively presented in July.
