In a press conference held at the Casa de Nariño, the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro Urrego, reaffirmed that the government will not withdraw the health reform bill, currently under debate in the Seventh Commission of the Senate.

The president emphasized the consequences of sinking the projecthighlighting the unsustainability of the current health system and the non-compliance with standards by the majority of Health Promotion Companies (EPS).

“We are not going to withdraw it for any reason,” Petro stated. «Congress knows what the consequence of sinking the health reform is. The current system is not sustainable. Most of the EPSs, not all, but the majority failed to comply with the regulations, and there are billions of pesos in the so-called technical reserves lost. So the government takes action.

The president stressed that the historical responsibility for this issue falls on Congress, warning that “the INRI is going to be on Congress, which was not capable of carrying out a health reform when it was most needed, if it adopts that position.” ». He insisted that reform is essential for the country and assured that the government will not allow the loss of public money.

The health reform project proposed by the Government contemplates several axes, including guaranteeing health care close to the population, strengthening the public hospital network, paying clinics and hospitals in a timely manner, and providing decent working conditions for health workers. health. In addition, it seeks to strengthen citizen participation in decision-making and care of resources, as well as advance pharmaceutical sovereignty with the production of vaccines.
