The Chinese gear Shineray is the best-selling motorcycle brand in the country. Learn about the model offering and what to know before buying one.
Chinese motorcycles are the best sellers in Ecuador. This explains why 50% of motorcycle imports to the country come from that market, according to the Central Bank.
Shineray is by far the best-selling motorcycle brand in the country. Between January and December 2023, that Chinese brand sold 35,228 units, almost double that of the second best-selling brand, Daytona, which is also of Chinese origin.
But which are the most popular models in Ecuador of this and other brands, and what uses can be given to them. Get to know them in this report.
To move in the city
The best-selling models in the country are light motorcycles, with low displacement and high fuel efficiency, used to move around the city, which includes the models known as ‘scotter’ or pasola, which are generally automatic. Among those are:
Wheelie XY125-30A
With a displacement of 125 cubic centimeters (cc), the Caballito XY125-30A motorcycle is the best-selling Chinese model and is from the Shineray brand. The price is around USD 1,500.

The second best-selling motorcycle in the country is the XY150-15 model, also from the Chinese brand Shineray. It has a displacement of 150 cc. The price is around USD 1,500.

Freedom Music
Another ‘scotter’ from Shineray is the Freedom Music, from its Bultaco line, with a displacement of 150 cc, which can be found on the market for around USD 1,800. This motorcycle closes the top 10 of the best-selling models.
With the entry into force of the trade agreement with China, motorcycles of that origin should begin to drop in price, due to tariff relief. Currently, they pay a 30% tariff. However, the effect will not be seen so quickly because starting in April the Value Added Tax (VAT) in Ecuador will increase, from 12% to 15%.
Motorcycles to make ‘delivery’
Utility motorcycles are those used to carry out work within the city.

Engine1, A brand assembled in Yaruquí, Quito, with Chinese components, also offers several models within the utility segment. By brand, it was the eighth best-selling in the country, in 2023. Its utility models are the GN, which range from 150 to 250 cc. They are low, easy to maneuver, and consume little fuel, explains Josue Alencastro, a salesman at one of the Motor1 stores in Quito. In the Shineray brand, there are several ‘dual purpose’ models, such as the 6I 250, which in the Master Moto chain is USD 2,150. In addition, there are motorcycles for travel. One of the best sellers at Master Moto is the Nazca 250, from Motor 1, with a price of USD 2,500.
