Two turns before the completion of the regular season in the Basket league and after the results of the 20th game, the landscape has become more complicated than clarified in terms of the final placing of the teams and the group in which they will participate in the third round of championship. The interest in the last two matches is focused on the “battle” of the quartet and the final placing for Peristeri, Promethea and Aris. On the other hand, the team that will occupy the sixth place and participate in the Top-6 while also ensuring the participation in the playoffs.
The victory of Kolossos against PAOK and also of Amarousios in Thessaloniki against Aris, combined with the home game of AEK, gave new interest to the race for the 6th place. The Rhodes team and the two “double-headers” are now tied with a record of 8-12, but it is no longer just their case, as both Maroussi and Lavrio follow with one less victory (7-13). Karditsa follows at a greater distance with a record of 6-14.
The following matchday, Maroussi welcomes AEK at the closed Agios Thomas stadium, while Lavrio plays at home against bottom (and given 12th place) Apollon. At the same time, Kolossos is tested in Patras against Prometheus, while PAOK hosts the pioneer Panathinaikos. The results of this matchday will largely determine how the five teams will fare in the final matchday. In fact, there are particularly high chances in the 22nd matchday for there to be a 5-point tie in 6th place!
The “race” for 3rd place
With the victories scored by both Peristeri and Prometheus, they gained a lead to be in the top four. Much – if not all – will be decided next Saturday when Peristeri welcomes Mars. In the event of their victory, the “cyano-yellows” will also mathematically secure the 3rd place as they are superior in a possible tie with Prometheus. However, if the Thessaloniki team gets the pink match sheet, then the positions 3-4-5 will be decided in the final of the second round.
