The music world mourns the loss of iconic songwriter and singer Eric Carmen, known for timeless hits like “All By Myself” and “Hungry Eyes.”

Carmen died at the age of 74, as confirmed by his wife, Amy Carmen, through a statement on the artist’s website. Although the exact circumstances of his death were not revealed by the family, it was reported that it occurred while she was sleeping over the weekend.

Born on August 11, 1949 in Cleveland, Eric Carmen demonstrated his passion for music from an early age, receiving violin lessons from his talented aunt and exploring various instruments such as the piano and guitar. During his youth, he stood out as a composer and rock musician, founding the band The Raspberries in 1970, which was successful until its dissolution in 1974.

However, Carmen would continue her solo career, achieving worldwide fame with her single “All By Myself” in 1975, which sold more than a million copies and spent three weeks at number two on the Billboard chart. Her musical legacy also includes other hits such as “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again” (1976), “She Did It” (1977) and “Make Me Lose Control” (1978).

In 1987, Carmen left another indelible mark with “Hungry Eyes,” part of the soundtrack of the hit movie “Dirty Dancing.” Throughout her career, she released five studio albums, with her last work, “I Was Born To Love You,” released in 2000 before her retirement from the public stage.

The physical departure of Eric Carmen leaves a void in the music industry, but his legacy will endure through his music, which will continue to move entire generations with his emotionality and talent.
