In the first two months of 2023, gas exports from Azerbaijan to Europe increased by 9.6 percent, to 2.1 billion cubic meters. During this time, 1.4 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to Turkey, and 0.6 billion to Georgia. Total gas exports over the past two months amounted to 4.1 billion cubic meters. Total gas production increased by 2.3 percent, to 8.2 billion cubic meters.

Vugar Bayramov, a member of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis (Parliament) Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship, wrote about this on his social network account, Day.Az reports.

“Despite the biased statements of a number of international structures and based on double standards, including some members of the European Parliament, economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Europe is strengthening. Over the past 3 years, Azerbaijan has exported more than 33 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe. In 2023, the volume of gas exports to Europe approached 12 billion cubic meters,” he wrote.

Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan’s role in ensuring European energy security has only increased in recent years. “Given that a memorandum of understanding was signed with the European Commission in 2022 to double supplies, the priority remains to attract new investments in the development of gas fields such as Absheron, Umid, Asiman, Shafag and Babek.” , which are planned to be put into operation in the coming period. At the second stage, 20 billion cubic meters of gas will be transported through the TAP pipeline to Europe. In general, the capacity of the Southern Gas Corridor can be increased to 32 billion cubic meters. At the new stage, Azerbaijan will supply its “green” “energy also to the European market. Energy obtained from renewable sources in Azerbaijan, through the territory of Georgia and along the bottom of the Black Sea can be exported to the European Union after 2026,” he said.
