976 crores 97 lakhs 75 thousand 476 rupees increased due to increase in the amount of work in three development projects. These include Karnaphuli Tunnel, Matarbari Port Development and a project at Wasa. The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has given its nod to the proposed increase in expenditure.

The proposals were approved in a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali on Thursday (March 14). Later, the Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division detailed the approved proposals.

The additional secretary said that the committee has approved the proposal to increase the duration and price of the contract of the consulting firm of the project ‘Construction of multi-lane road tunnel under the river Karnaphuli’. The project consultant SMEC and COWI were hired for 291 crore 37 lakh 58 thousand 464 taka. The committee has approved the proposal to increase the cost of additional 1 crore 4 lakh 41 thousand 536 taka of the original contract due to extension of the contract period of the consultancy firm for the detection of defects of the main tunnel and supervision of incomplete works till June 30, 2024.

In the meeting, the proposal to increase 24 crore 5 lakh 32 thousand 463 taka for the variation of additional work of the consulting firm under the ‘Matarbari Port Development’ project was approved.

The Additional Secretary said, the committee has approved the proposal to increase the time and cost of the ‘Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply’ project. The project is being implemented jointly by (1) Suez International and (2) OTV Veolia. As per the contract, due to the reduction/increase in tendered/non-tendered items while the work is in progress, the committee approved the proposal to increase the cost of Tk 951 crore 88 lakh 1 thousand 477 in addition to the original contract to increase the time and cost of the work with the contractor.
