The case with multiple twists and turns of young Ibrahima, who had been missing for years, before being found by a Barry family in Tountouroun in the Labé prefecture, had its epilogue on Wednesday March 13, 2024. You will remember that after being found, a second family from Senegal whose name is Souaré, had also claimed his paternity. To disentangle fact from fiction in this case, and find his real family, the judicial authorities of Labé had requested a DNA text. This was done in Lyon, one of the French cities. After several months of waiting, the result came back, and it was made known to the press. According to our information, it was found that the young person does not belong to the Barry family who had found him upstream, but rather to the Souaré family from Senegal. Found at the Labé TPI, Dr. Ibrahima Barry from the rejected family, said he was relying on divine will.

“My family is relying on God’s will, it’s been 15 years since our child was taken. The DNA text was done, it was my family who requested this test, we paid all the costs, so the result came, we are behind it. We ask the Good Lord to help us find our child. Since it’s a truth, our child has been kidnapped for years. We don’t want someone else’s child, we want our own child back. If someone happens to see our child, help us find him,” says Dr. Ibrahima Barry.

For his part, the representative of the now real family of the young person who is the subject of the dispute, is delighted with the result obtained. “Fortunately, according to the DNA test, young Ibrahima is the son of Aliou Souaré from Senegal and not of Mamadou Saliou Barry from Mali. I remember when his father, Aliou Souaré, gave it to our Koranic master when we went to Senegal. The way things were going, my Koranic master and I were going to be accused of having kidnapped this child, but the truth always remains the truth. Now, the child has a name, his name is Ibrahima Souaré, son of Aliou Souaré and Aissata Sow, it was his father who entrusted his son to us when we went to Senegal. We stayed together for 7 years in Toulel (Koubia), then he hid to come and stay in Tountouroun,” explains Thierno Ibrahima Toulel Diallo.

When questioned, the public prosecutor at the Labé TPI told us that the DNA test was carried out in Lyon.

“This is an issue that has caused quite a stir in the Labé region. This is primarily a child abduction, but basically we understood that it was a question of paternity claims, so the investigating judge came out with an order for a DNA expertise, the samples were taken at BIOMAR laboratory in Conakry, these samples went to Lyon in France, and the results arrived. The results say that the father of the child is the Souaré couple from Senegal and not the Barry couple from Yembering (Mali)” specifies Maurice Onivogui.
