The professor of Educational Psychology of the School of Education and Human Development of the George Mason University of the USA will be awarded an honorary doctorate of the Pedagogical Department of Kindergarten Teachers of the School of Educational Sciences of the University of Ioannina. Anastasia Kitsanda.


Anastasia Kitsada’s research interests focus on the development of self-regulated learning (SRL) and student motivation in various areas of human functioning. He has also explored the role of learning technologies in supporting students’ SRL. She is the editor, author, and co-author of four books and more than 150 publications, many of which address self-regulation education. Her research work has been widely recognized by the scientific community with more than 20,000 citations in Google Scholar and she is among the top 2% of scientists worldwide (Jeroen, Boyack, & Ioannidis, 2020). For her scientific research she has received funding and financial support from various agencies. She is currently the principal investigator and co-investigator on two projects (~$5,000,000) funded by the United States Department of Education (USDOE) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), respectively.
She has been honored with the 2019 Barry J. Zimmerman Award for her contributions to the fields of SRL Education and Research, from the Studying and SRL Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). He was named a Fellow of the American Psychological Association’s: Division 15, Educational Psychology and was recently named a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and a “2024 Member” of AERA. She was editor-in-chief of “The Journal of Experimental Education” and participates in the editorial boards of several scientific journals. Finally, he has been honored with an Excellence in Teaching award from George Mason University and has supervised more than 30 doctoral theses.
The announcement ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 13, at 7 pm, in the Amphitheater of the “Karolos Papoulias” Conference Center of the University of Ioannina. The ceremony will begin with an address by the rector of the University of Ioannina, Anna Batistatou, who will then present the titles. This will be followed by the praise of the teacher of the Early Childhood Education Department, member of the Board of Directors Aikaterini Plakitsis, the reading of the texts of the Department’s resolution, the announcement and the doctoral diploma by the president of the Early Childhood Education Department, deputy professor Charilaos K. Zaraga and the dressing of the woman honored with the tibenno of the University of Ioannina by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor Polyxeni E. Pange.
After the ceremony, Anastasia Kichanda will deliver a speech in English on “Self-Regulation: A Path to Excellence across Diverse Disciplines”. The event will conclude with a musical program with the graduate student of the Department of Kindergarten Education, Georgia Anastassi on the piano and Anastasia Tsinidelou on the flute.
