A discussion meeting was held between Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) and Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) with a view to establishing a commodity exchange. Bajus agreed to work jointly with CSE in the meeting.

The meeting was held at Bashundhara’s office on Thursday (March 14). This information was informed in a press release sent by CSE on Friday (March 15).

Vice President Md. was present on behalf of Bajus in the meeting. Ripnul Hasan, Vice President Masudur Rahman, Co-Editor Uttam Ghosh and Executive Member Joydev Saha. Meanwhile, CSE Managing Director M Saifur Rahman and Deputy Manager Faisal Huda were present on behalf of CSE.

At that time, CSE’s commodity consultant partner Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), India’s Head of Research Devjyoti Dey and Chief Business Officer Rishi Mathani were involved in the meeting through the virtual platform. Bajus and other officials of CSE were also present on the occasion.

CSE is working to establish a commodity exchange in Bangladesh for the first time. To that end, the meeting was held to receive the suggestions and opinions of Bajus leaders as part of discussions with various stakes periodically. In the meeting, the value chain of gold and jewelers business in Bangladesh was discussed in detail.

In the meeting, CSE Managing Director M Saifur Rahman informed Bajus about the journey of Gold Commodity Exchange and urged them to work together for the establishment of Gold Exchange. Also, in the said meeting, the necessary strategies like sustainable price discovery, product advisory committee formation etc. were discussed for establishing a vibrant commodity market in Bangladesh like other developed countries.

In the meeting, Bajus representatives informed that they have agreed to work jointly with CSE. The joint initiative of CSE and BAJUS to establish a thriving commodity market will benefit all concerned with the gold market including BAJUS members as well as play a supportive role in the economic growth of the country.
