Dimitar Berbatov, Stiliyan Petrov and Martin Petrov personally went to Georgi Ivanov and in front of the whole hall congratulated him on his election as president of the BFS.
Immediately afterwards, in front of the huge number of media representatives who were waiting for them, Berbatov announced that he and his two loyal companions will continue to walk with their heads held high. However, Stiliyan and Martin stated categorically that they are done with Bulgarian football.
“Mr. Ivanov has declared himself the Executive Committee, I will be with Dimitar Berbatov until the end. I want to congratulate Georgi Ivanov and wish him success. We are real and it is clear that we want to work for Bulgarian football. Stiliyan Petrov has come this far with Bulgarian football! Stiliyan Petrov will not be in Bulgarian football. I want to thank the whole team of Dimitar. There are people who want to look for something different. We can be proud that we stood with our faces and our names remain clean. For three years we have been fighting with the problems in the BFS,” said Stiliyan Petrov.
“I am also done with Bulgarian football. I will ask you not to look for me anymore to comment on Bulgarian football. We tried for three years to do something. We gave our all,” said Martin Petrov.
Georgi Ivanov-Gonzo was elected president of the BFS in the first round. He won with 235 votes (1 more than needed to avoid a runoff), and his main competitor, Dimitar Berbatov, collected 181 votes.
Georgi Ivanov collected 235 votes with 469 of the 469 registered delegates voting.
Invalid votes – 3.
Actual votes – 466.
Votes needed to win – 50% + 1 vote of all actual votes – 234 votes.
