Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan said that there has been a significant regression in the negotiation process on liberalizing the country’s visa regime with the European Union (EU).

As Day.Az reports, according to him, work with the EU was unprecedentedly intense. He noted that progress was recorded in all areas. “But there is one area where the desired result has not yet been achieved. Both in relations with the EU and with individual members of the union, the situation is very far from positive. This is the issue of visas,” he said.

Hovhannisyan emphasized that the regression even affected students heading to Europe under the Erasmus program. He promised that the ministry will continue to work in this direction. Hovhannisyan also expressed hope that the situation will change for the better this year.

Thus, it seems that Armenian dreams of European integration have received their first serious blow. Apparently, Europe has come to the conclusion that “visa-free” will create conditions for the migration of Armenians to the countries of the economic bloc.
