A Crunch is something to be won. The French XV hopes to conclude its 2024 Six Nations Tournament on a good note against England this Saturday March 16 in Lyon for the fifth and final day. With eleven points, Fabien Galthié’s men are currently fourth in the standings, behind Ireland, England and Scotland, and they have still not won at home.
In this 2024 edition, the Blues have two away victories; one, sluggish and controversial in Scotland (16-20) during the second day, and the other, convincing, against Wales (24-45) last Sunday. But they lost sharply, at home, as soon as they entered the fray against Ireland (17-38), which is – a priori – preparing to win the tournament. Facing Italy in Villeneuve d’Ascq at the end of February, France came close to historic defeat by achieving an almost miraculous draw (13-13).
If we want to see the glass half full, we can say that, mathematically, the Blues can still win the Six Nations but it would take a fairly improbable combination of circumstances. For its part, England has more reason to believe in its chances of winning the Tournament: it would have to win with the bonus against the Blues, hoping that Ireland loses without taking a bonus a little earlier in the day on Saturday (5:45 p.m.).
This Thursday, March 14, the composition of the Blues was made official and no surprises are to be reported. Fabien Galthié chose to renew the same fifteen starters lined up last Sunday in Cardiff during the big victory against Wales (24-45). Posolo Tuilagi will not be present at Groupama Stadium, after being released by the Blues staff to strengthen the France U20 team.
