The UN investigation details that there was genital mutilation, sexualized torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.

A team of United Nations experts released a report denouncing rape and sexual torture committed by Israel and by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.

Pramila Patten, UN representative, revealed “clear and convincing information” that some hostages were raped, even in groups, and that “this type of violence can continue to occur”with the people who are still kidnapped.

According to data from the organization, the war between Israel and Hamas has claimed the lives of at least 30,534 people in the Gaza Strip, while 71,920 have been injured. Meanwhile, Palestinian militias have killed 1,139 people since the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

What does the UN report say?

From late January to early February 2024, the United Nations deployed a team of experts led by Pramila Pattenrepresentative of the UN Secretary General.

The investigation indicates that acts of collective rape occurred in at least three places in Israel.

“In the majority of these incidents, the victims first subjected to rape were then murdered, and at least two incidents involve rape of women’s corpses“, indicated from the United Nations.

The UN report also mentions allegations that Palestinians detained by Israel also suffered sexual abuse.

“Credible circumstantial information was collected that may be indicative of some forms of sexual violence, including genital mutilation, sexualized torture or cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment“reads the 24-page UN report.

Along with this, Patten added that “several bodies were recovered completely naked or partially naked from the waist down, “mostly women, with their hands tied and shot multiple times, often in the head.”

In that sense, he added that the pattern of stripping and restraining the victims “may be indicative of some forms of sexual violence.”

According to the United Nations, the experts had access 5,000 photographs, 50 hours of video from the moment of the attack and they interviewed some of the hostages who were released.
