“Populism and nationalism will have a leading role in setting the agenda because they provide easy answers to very difficult questions and on the other hand they do not cover the whole range of problems.” We should not allow populists to rise and dictate the agenda of the EU! We are obliged in Bulgaria to resist populism, because today DPS is in a key position. This was stated by the leader of the European liberals, Ilhan Kyuchuk, during the two-day conference “The Europe we imagine: Forward on the liberal path”, organized by the MEP.
According to him, the DPS youth organization will play a decisive role in the upcoming European elections. He emphasized that it was not by chance that in 2007 the voter who went most enthusiastically to European elections was that of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms with the clear idea that rights and freedoms not taken at the national level can be won on European territory.
Ilhan Kyuchuk was adamant that European sovereignty gave much more to Bulgarian citizens and made them stronger and more defensible.
“Today Bulgaria, as part of the EU, is different – much more active, more competent, much more correctly and justified in defending its national position in the EU. And this is the meaning of today’s conversation, because young people will determine the country’s path in the future. Bulgaria can be a prosperous country within the EU and we must work more and more focused to achieve this goal,” said Kyuchuk to dozens of young people at the conference.
The event is a continuation of ALDE’s discussions with citizens, providing an opportunity for a deeper consideration of European topics of key importance for the future, in the context of the upcoming European elections in the summer.
