Quito. The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) promotes the development of port activity and maritime and river transportation in the country. In 2023, the statistics of the port system reflected the entry of 3,708 vessels of different drafts to the public and private port terminals of Guayaquil, Manta, Machala and Esmeraldas.

Of the total, 46 correspond to the registry of the Port Authority of Esmeraldas; 446, Manta Port Authority; 1,147, Port Authority of Guayaquil; 379, Port Authority of Puerto Bolívar; 957, Authorized Port Terminals (private); 367, Superintendence of the Balao Oil Terminal (SUINBA); 302, Superintendence of the Libertad Oil Terminal (SUINLI) and 64 in the El Salitral Oil Terminal (SUINSA).

The commitment of El Nuevo Ecuador is to convert the country’s ports into a development pole on a global scale. The statistical reports consolidated by the Undersecretariat of Ports and Maritime and River Transport of the MTOP report that, from January to December 2023, 2,547,214 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit) were moved through public and private terminals: 1,283,956 TEU corresponds to imports and 1,263,257 TEUs to exports of various products.

In this same period, this State portfolio registered a cargo movement of 56,322,873.43 metric tons, of this figure, 20,805,317.94 correspond to import and 35,517,555 to export through the public and private port terminals of Ecuador .

The country’s ports have the necessary capacity to provide services to all types of vessels, as well as handle and store containers or any type of dry or refrigerated cargo in their facilities.

The National Government, through the MTOP, promotes foreign trade and connectivity to the main state ports of the country, benefiting the productive, commercial and tourism sector.
