Project “Strengthening Sustainable Livestock Farming in the province of Chimborazo”

This project, led by the Directorate of Productive Development of the Prefecture, focuses on the implementation of the bovine gene bank and the artificial insemination technique. In a ceremony held recently, the delivery of livestock, food supplements and a kit of essential reagents for the operation of the gene bank was carried out.

The Prefect of Chimborazo, Hermel Tayupanda, highlighted the importance of collaboration between the academy and the productive sector, emphasizing that “the academy must be a fundamental pillar of development.” In this sense, an agreement was signed to inseminate two thousand cattle animals in order to improve dairy production in the province.

The project has an investment of $15,300 dollars, which includes the delivery of Holstein Fresian and Brown Swiss cattle, as well as food supplements, liquid nitrogen, reagents and insemination tanks. For its part, ESPOCH will contribute with teaching staff, technicians and students, with an estimated value of $30,430.08 dollars.

Byron Vaca, rector of ESPOCH, highlighted the institution’s experience in the genetic improvement of animals and its commitment to regional development. He recalled the acquisition of purebred specimens for the Pastaza experimental station six years ago, and reaffirmed ESPOCH’s continued commitment to the communities to promote sustainable development in the region.
