According to a Border Patrol report obtained by the American tabloid, Bassel Bassel Abadi (22), born in Berg al-Barajna, south of Beirut, was caught near El Paso, Texas, on March 9. In the initial questioning, when he was asked to explain the circumstances of his stay in the US, he answered “I intend to try to assemble a bomb.”

According to the document, following his statement, Abadi was placed in solitary confinement and after threatening the staff members, he was transferred to further interrogation by intelligence agents of the Tactical Response Team to Combat Terrorism and claimed to be a member of Hezbollah. He said that for seven years he underwent jihad training aimed at “people who are not Muslims” and secured weapons caches for four years.

According to Abadi, he fled Lebanon because he “didn’t want to kill people” and that when he was in Costa Rica, his documents were stolen from him. He also admitted to using a fake name and date of birth. He also said that he hoped to reach New York and from there continue to other places throughout the US.
