In an atmosphere of deep emotion, the political memorial service of the late mayor of Ioannina, Moises Elisaf, took place on Wednesday, in an event dedicated to his life and work, organized by the Central Jewish Council of Greece at the Old Parliament, in Athens.

“With the completion of one year since the loss of Moses Elisaf, Hellenic Jewry honors his contribution to man and culture, to science and the university community, to the city of Ioannina and to our country, to the Jewish cultural heritage, to the preservation of the memory of the Holocaust and in the fight against anti-Semitism”, said the general secretary of the Central Jewish Council of Greece Victor Is. Eliezer, while the president of KISE David Saltiel addressed a greeting.
The president of the Electoral Council of the National Library of Greece Stavros Zoumboulakis, the journalist of the newspaper “Kathimerini” Xenia Kounalaki, the professor of Pathology of the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Vangelis Lymberopoulos and the honorary president spoke about Moses Elisaf and his work of I.O.V.E. Raphael Moussis.
The government was represented by the Minister of the Interior Niki Kerameos, SYRIZA by the president of its Parliamentary Group Sokratis Famellos, PASOK-KINAL by the MP of Ioannina Yiannis Tsimaris and the New Left by the MP of Ioannina Meropi Tzoufi. The Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou was also present.
The mayor of Ioannina Thomas Begas, the deputy regional governor of Epirus Agni Nakou, the head of the “Yiannena Nea Epoch” faction, former mayor Dimitris Papageorgiou and the councilors of the faction Giorgos Arletos, Eleni Akonidou and Rena Delikoura were also present in the seats, as well as representatives of the Israeli community from all over Greece. Of course, the wife of Moses Elisaf, Cleopatra Hatzigiannis-Elisaf, could not be missing.
“Our faction, the faction he founded, attended the event with councilors and its members. Our faction will always remember him and will honor the memory of a great man who deeply loved Ioannina”, says the “Ioannina New Era” faction in its Facebook post.
An extensive post was also made by Meropi Tzoufi, in which, among other things, she states: “On February 17 of last year, the announcement of the death of Moses Elisaf moved the whole of Greece and filled the entire Medical community and above all the people of Ioannina with sadness.
Moses was a genuine man and rich in feelings of compassion and humanity, just and always restless both in his scientific activity and in politics. He was widely accepted as a man who knew how to unite, regardless of origin and religion by possessing a multicultural culture as a man and trying to inspire it in others mainly through his work in the field of culture.
Moses Elisaf, professor of Pathology and mayor of Ioannito, is no longer with us, leaving in a hurry after an unfair battle with cancer. His offer and contribution, timeless and great. In science and teaching, in the Jewish community, in preserving historical memory against Nazism, in the city he loved. He leaves behind him a great work in Medicine, which will be read for many years and to all of us his colleagues, fellow citizens of Ioannina, he leaves an example of honesty and hard work, and a vision for a better city”.
