Milan-San Remo 2024 | Jasper Philipsen wins in the sprint

by time news

The Belgian Jasper Philipsen won the 115th edition of Milan-San Remofirst of the five “Monuments” of the cycling Saturday March 16.

The longest professional one-day race in modern cycling ended in apotheosis with a photo finish victory in front of Michael Matthews et Tadej Pogačar.

The road world champion and defending champion, Mathieu van der Poelaimed to become the first rider to retain his crown since 2001 but ultimately finished 10th, behind Julian Alaphilippe.

While we thought we would see Mathieu van der Poel to win, he preferred not to drive 3 km from the finish. He finally decided to drop off the Franco-Dutchman 300 meters from the line. It’s the first time that Jasper Philipsen wins a monument. His only Top 10 came at Paris-Roubaix 2023, where he finished 2nd.
