A ceremony was held in Güzelyurt on the occasion of March 18 Martyrs’ Day.

Güzelyurt Mayor Mahmut Özçınar also attended the ceremony held at 10.00 in front of the Atatürk Monument opposite Güzelyurt District Governorship.

According to the statement made by Güzelyurt Municipality, the ceremony started with the laying of wreaths according to the protocol order; Flags were raised accompanied by a moment of silence, a salute of respect and the National Anthem.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the 49th Infantry Regiment Command of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces, Infantry Lieutenant Samet Karamustafa and Güzelyurt Şehit Turgut Secondary School Social Studies Teacher Fatma Özbahadır made a speech stating the meaning and importance of the day and explained that the Çanakkale Victory was the heroic epic of the Turkish nation that changed the course of history.

At the ceremony, Yiğit Duman, one of the students of Şehit Turgut Secondary School, also read the poem “Çanakkale”.

The ceremony ended after the speeches.
