Given this, the British authorities asked their Chilean counterparts to take measures in this regard.

“Many foreign visitors have been scammed out of large sums of money by unlicensed taxi drivers, even in airport taxis,” they accused from the United Kingdom.

Faced with this, the Foreign Ministry informed the Ministry of the Interior of the United Kingdom’s claims for these events, in a document released by radio Biobío.

“In particular, so far in 2024, three British citizens have been victims of the crime of fraud by taking vehicles at the Santiago airport that claimed to be official taxis, However, it was a fraud in which the driver stole large sums of money, which would reach four million pesos,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry specified that the United Kingdom proposed a series of measures to confront this type of scams against its citizens.

“Take taxis at the counters located inside the airport, try to see the amount that will be charged before presenting the card for the final payment of the trip, carefully review the amount that is charged at the portable card machines, including the number of zeros that are shown on the screen,” he stated.
