Sylvain Augier, the former host of the French television shows “Faut pas rêver” and “La carte aux Trésors”, died on Saturday at the age of 68, his daughter announced on Tuesday.

On TV, his long figure, his gentle smile and his receding hairline remain associated with travel and adventure. The general public first knew him thanks to the show “Faut pas rêve”, which he presented from 1990 to 1999 and won two Sept d’or, the television awards, in 1997.

Scheduled on Friday in the second part of the evening on France 3, this program presented reports on exotic destinations. It was created by Georges Pernoud, the father of “Thalassa”, broadcast just before.

The treasure map

From 1996 to 2005, Sylvain Augier also presented “The Treasure Map”, a distant adventure game descended from the legendary “Treasure Hunt” by Philippe de Dieuleveult in the 80s.

The candidates went in search of hidden objects in a given department, using the helicopter, one of Sylvain Augier’s passions, and solving puzzles.

Besides the helicopter, the host was crazy about risky sports. In 1988, at the age of 33, he had a serious paragliding accident in the Hautes-Pyrénées, which almost cost him the amputation of a foot.

Bipolarity

“He was our ever-joking Tintin reporter,” greeted host and sportswoman Nathalie Simon on Tuesday on the social network

“The disappearance of Sylvain Augier is a great loss for the Sud Radio family,” reacted host Cécile de Ménibus on X.

Late in life, he spoke openly about his fight against bipolarity, this “formidable enemy” in a moving book published in October, “I’ve come back from afar”, which opened with a suicide attempt he had made at 55 years.
