At around 3pm on the 30th, the day before Easter. As the sound of the embossed trumpet echoed through Gwanghwamun Square, the curtain rose on the ‘2024 Easter Parade’.

As soon as the trumpet sound ended, exciting musical music began to flow, and a procession of believers followed, reenacting scenes with religious significance, such as the Ark of the Covenant entering the City of David and Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Citizens enjoyed the parade by stomping their hands and feet to the beat.

The ‘2024 Easter Parade’ was held at Gwanghwamun Square and the Seoul City Hall area on this day, hosted by the Korean Federation of Churches, a Protestant union organization.

Lee Young-hoon, CEO of the 2024 Easter Parade Organizing Committee, said, “We prepared the Easter Parade as a non-denominational, pan-citizen festival to express the joy and gratitude of Jesus’ resurrection,” and added, “Today, a beautiful chapter of unity transcending generations and cultures unfolds in Gwanghwamun, and everyone “I hope this will be an opportunity for us to move forward together on the path of hope,” he said in his speech.

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon preached Acts 4:33 and said, “I hope that the 2024 Easter Parade will be graced with the joy of Jesus’ resurrection, just as the crowds receive great grace as the apostles testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus with great power.” “I hope that this will be a parade that shares the joy of resurrection together and moves towards a hopeful tomorrow,” he said.

The event on this day was ‘Go Together! It was carried out under the slogan ‘People waiting for resurrection’.

The full-scale parade began at 3 p.m. on this day with a round trip from Gwanghwamun Square to Seoul Square. About 15,000 people from 60 teams organized the 3.4km section.

Citizens also enjoyed the abundant attractions, including horseback riding parades, band performances, musical performances, and choirs. When a dance team made up of young students came out, citizens looked at them with joy and responded by clapping. A young child whose father rode a wooden horse also watched the parade.

Before the parade began in earnest, various experiential events were held on site to further liven up the event atmosphere.

There was a long line to take pictures in front of the large sculpture of ‘Yeppi’, a large mascot shaped like a chick that conveys the joy of Jesus’ resurrection. The line to participate in the basketball game stretched all the way to the next booth.

Christian believers enjoyed this day’s event to their heart’s content.

Lee Han-sol (22) and Park Ye-dam (21), who visited the event venue from noon that day, said, “It was fun to play various games and get stamps at the booth,” and “It was nice to be able to receive a Yeppi doll as a prize.”

Mr. Joo (22), who visited the square with a friend, said, “It is both amazing and good that the Easter event is being held in Seoul,” and added, “I also visited because I wanted to be of help.”

Even non-Christians visited the square to enjoy the event.

Choi, a Catholic believer who was watching the march with her fourth-grade daughter, said, “I went to the event venue because there was a booth where I could draw with my daughter,” and added, “If the event is held again next year, I want to come again.”
