The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will be held on March 31 at a five-star hotel in the capital. For this upcoming AGM, the budget has been increased in two phases by two and a half crore rupees. In all, the budget of the AGM stands at 4.4 crores or 3 crores and 76 lakhs.
This is going to be the second AGM of BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon’s third term. The last AGM was held in 2022. For this year, the budget for the first phase was Tk 2 crore. However, in the last board meeting, the budget was increased in the second phase by another quarter of 2 crore or 1 crore 76 lakh taka.
RisingBD has confirmed the matter from the concerned department of BCB. It is known that in the first phase, the board approved Rs. 2 crores. However, due to the increase in expenses, the budget was re-passed by doubling the amount of money. But where has the cost increased?
BCB spends a large part of the budget on councillors. There are 170 councilors in all districts of Cricket Board. Each will be given Tk 1 lakh in cash and an electronic gadget each. Initially, it was supposed to pay 50 thousand in cash, but it was increased by 50 thousand more.
If 170 people are given 1 lakh taka, the cost will be 1 crore 70 lakh taka. Gadgets can also cost about crores of rupees. But depending on the type of gadget, money in this sector may increase or decrease. The board will also bear the traveling expenses of the councillors. The councilors will be accommodated in five star hotels. Councilors of distant districts will be given air tickets.
All in all, the BCB AGM is like a festival for the councillors. Every time cash is accompanied by expensive gifts. This time is no exception. In the previous AGM (2022) there was a mobile phone and 50 thousand taka. And in the AGM held before the BCB elections, there was a laptop and 1 lakh rupees.
On March 9, the board called an emergency board meeting to organize the upcoming AGM. There the board directors finalize all matters including the budget.
