San Salvador. The former Secretary of Communications of the government of Salvador Sánchez Cerén, Eugenio Chicas, confirmed this Wednesday that the Fmln has expelled him, by deleting him from its membership register.

Chicas, once a strong leader of the leftist Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, interprets this decision by the current party leadership as feeling “uncomfortable” with its opinions expressed in various media outlets.

“I speak clearly about many of these (political) issues and it may be that some of the current FMLN leaders are uncomfortable with this,” Chicas reiterated.

The now former member of the left-wing party says that this decision has been made by the leadership headed by Óscar Ortiz and “a majority managed by José Luis Merino”; They “deleted many of the FMLN lists,” he said.

Eugenio Chicas suggested at the time that the presidential candidacy that would compete against Nayib Bukele was representative of “the opposition”, which implied a tacit alliance of the Fmln with Arena; However, Manuel Flores announced his candidacy, registered as such and participated in the race. That and other opinions would have undermined the confidence that the party had in Chicas and now he says that “I am a man of the left, a progressive man, but I no longer belong to the ranks of the Front, not because I have decided so, but because “They decided.”
