The Department of Telecom keeps taking new decisions regarding smartphones from time to time. Now it has been decided to deactivate USSD-based call forward from April 15 till further orders. Also in its order, DoT said that as an alternative, it can be restarted later. At present, it has been decided to make changes in it after April 15.

To use the USSD service, customers simply dial a code on the screen. Currently this service is used to check IMEI number and balance of mobile phone. Actually this order has been taken to check fraud and online crime. In its order dated March 28, DoT said that Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) was being used for unauthorized activities.

That means now you are not going to get such facility on smartphone. This is the reason why now USSD-Best Call Forwarding service is being discontinued from 15th April 2024. However, it has not yet been made clear as to how long this facility will remain closed. It can be restarted after some time. At present the aspects related to this are being investigated.

Decisions to stop cyber crime-This is not the first time that such a decision has been taken by a government institution. Earlier too, a similar decision had been taken regarding issuing SIM cards. It was said that to get a new SIM card, you will have to get e-verification done. That means a decision was taken to stop physical verification. Now the decision to stop USSD-based call forward has also been taken in this sequence. However, it has not been stopped forever yet.
