A few hours after the dissolution of the country’s municipal councils, by the president of the transition, General Mamadi Doumbouya, reactions are legion across the country. In Labé, the actors concerned by the situation were not on the sidelines of this reality. When questioned, the now former vice-mayor of the urban commune of Labé, in his capacity as spokesperson for the federal office of the UFDG, did not fail to take shots at the authorities.

“We have been waiting for this for a long time, since as you know with the former Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Mr. Mory Condé, lists to be used for the establishment of special delegations had been prepared and sent to Conakry. In any case, the mandates of the municipal councils had already ended since 2023, it was a 5-year mandate, it is completely normal, but we expected that we would organize the elections. The advisors who were there were advisors who were elected by universal suffrage. Under normal conditions, we cannot, in a normal country, replace them with special delegations. I am really disappointed, in this country we are only regressing democracy. We are in a transition of course, but we cannot replace elected officials with special delegations. These communal councils were the only references that remained in that country, since they dissolved the national assembly, the constitution and several institutions, to impose other people” affirms Mamadou Aliou Sampiring Diallo.

For our interlocutor, the logic in which the CNRD is part, leaves no shadow of doubt, that they are seeking to extend the transition.

“You are aware that all elections should be held in 2024, so that we can get out of this transition. To save time, they are talking to us today about a referendum. We listened to the Prime Minister last time on RFI, he said that it is only the referendum that can be held this year. Which means that all elections can only be held in 2025. There has already been a shift in the calendar. They will not be able to respect the promises made to international institutions like ECOWAS. The transition timetable will not be respected,” concludes the former vice-mayor of Labé.
