Most used goods are purchased through peer-to-peer trading platforms… Various counterfeit brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, etc.

‘CHIC’, a used luxury goods trading app that originated from Naver’s resale platform ‘KREAM’ and the domestic luxury goods community ‘CHICMENT’, has been running on other used luxury goods platforms for about a month to relieve the anxiety of trading used luxury goods. As a result of conducting a free authenticity appraisal promotion for purchased luxury goods, it was revealed that the fake product rate exceeded 14%. More than 200 customers applied for free genuine product appraisal through the promotion.

A Chic official said, “The 14% counterfeit rate calculated in the free genuine product appraisal promotion was 700 times higher than the 0.02% counterfeit rate of used products received by Chic, and most of the products found to be counterfeit were purchased through second-hand peer-to-peer trading platforms. “I brought it in,” he explained.

The products judged to be counterfeit were of various types, including Prada’s steady product Re-Nylon backpack, Louis Vuitton’s representative shopper bag line Babin, and Chanel’s introductory model WOC line.

A Chic representative said, “Approximately 30% of those who applied for a free appraisal in the promotion said they applied because they were anxious about the authenticity of the product, while 45% of customers purchased used luxury goods simply because the price was low.” Although it may feel relatively cheap, customers are more exposed to the risk of ‘purchasing counterfeit products’. “We recommend that you purchase expensive luxury goods second-hand from a platform that operates a systematic counterfeit goods compensation system,” he said.

Chic always provides appraisals for luxury goods purchased externally as a paid service. Detailed information on related services can be obtained through Chic’s customer center.

Meanwhile, Chic also introduced the ‘Inspection Report’ function, which allows users who purchased products through an inspection transaction to conveniently view the inspection results for related products within the app. This report can be shared directly by the buyer, so it is expected to be used as an authentication tool when reselling the product.

Chic was the first in Korea to introduce a 12-step seller verification system, guaranteeing trust in transactions and establishing itself as Korea’s leading used luxury goods trading platform, exceeding KRW 100 billion in cumulative transaction volume in just a year since its launch. If a product traded after inspection is determined to be counterfeit, 300% of the transaction amount will be compensated. Chic said, “As of now, two years from launch, the inspection failure rate is 0.007%.”
