This Monday, March 4, the lists of witnesses from the US and Carlos Pólit for the money laundering trial will be made official. Although several names have already been revealed.

A little more than a month before the trial for money laundering against Carlos Pólit, former Ecuadorian comptroller, is set in the United States. The Prosecutor’s Office of that country and the defense of the former official have several requirements to meet.

The Court of the Southern District of Florida established a prior schedule, between March 4 and 25, 2024, for the parties to deliver information:

March 4, 2024: Evidence and witness lists from the United States and Pólit.

March 4, 2024: Motions in limine, used to request exclusions of evidence.

March 18, 2024: Updated witness lists and evidence from the United States and Pólit.

March 21, 2024: Voir dire proposal (exclusion and confirmation of jurors), jury instructions and verdict form.

March 22, 2024: Responses to motions in limine.

March 25, 2024: Pretrial conference.

The first important date in this schedule is March 4, 2024. This Monday, both the United States Prosecutor’s Office and Carlos Pólit’s defense must present the lists of the witnesses they will present at the trial.

Although the list will only be presented on March 4, in previous documents – both the Prosecutor’s Office and Pólit and their lawyers – have already provided several names and descriptions of those who will be part of their testimonial evidence.

Pólit’s witnesses

Pólit and his lawyers, for example, have already revealed that they will have seven witnesses, although only the identity of one is known. Due to their immigration status, these people will testify from Ecuador.
